If they ever get round to actually getting rid of the Astoria I'll be quite sad, it's such an awesome venue.

just remember how lucky you all are who live in london. Most bands who come to the uk play london. It is the rest of us who have to travel miles for ANY gig. Stop all your fucking bleating cuz you may have to go 4 more stops on the tube to get to a gig.

You tell 'em 'Mort. I went to the Astoria a couple of times,Testament/Death Angel/Marduk etc back in 2003(ish) and Slayer/Lamb of God when they played "Reign in Blood" from start to finish, but both trips involved getting the train down from Nottingham, then getting the last train back at twenty to twelve,to arrive back in Notts at half two in the morning, then still have to get home from the station!

So,some venue hundreds of miles from me has closed down....

...whatever.

Dude, I think that was the same Slayer gig I was at. If I remember rightly they played the same set 2 nights in a row, I was at the second. I think Lamb Of God supported?

whatever mate, its a shame, live music is part of our lives, some poeple decide to make familys, some people decide to make careers, we live and breathe live music here, most of those who move here (metal heads) eat up the scene and pretty much spend every night at some gig watching some band somewhere, its part of our lives, theres always a constant battle to keep venues open, its a shame that they can be bought out so easily , dont matter to you though...... i understand what yr saying donny, and me and id imagine ribbons too, were probably regulars at places like rock city, edwards, hummingbird, rock house, central park etc back in the 80s. In 20 years time, you may probably be doing thing different too u know. At least in london, there are other places to see gigs (turtle, underworld, la scala etc etc) just one of (the only???) benefit of living in the capitol

Yeah man, I agree with Beer Can. I only went twice to the Astoria, but it was a great venue and I'll miss it. It did a lot for the underground scene as well as for signed bands. As a live engineer too, I don't want to see that place go. It's one of those places that, if I'd had work there, it would have been a milestone in my career, no matter whether I was engineering Slayer or Kasabian. It sucks that music is so lowly valued in the country, despite the fact that creative industries bring more revenue into the country than any other (yes, this includes films and theater, but it all fucking counts).

It's 3am, and I've just got back from Paddy's day drinkage, so apologies if any of this doesn't make total sense.
