Re: Britishness
If we didn't have basic freedom of speech, the BNP wouldn't be around.

I'm not moaning, I love Britain, it just annoys me when I hear misguided kids say things like "WHAT?! I HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH THOUGH!" because in this country we don't. There are laws in place for things like inciting hatred etc, making it illegal for people to, say, go out onto the street and say "we must kill all the black people". Whether this is a bad or a good thing is debatable, I think in that kind of context it's a good thing.

Re: Britishness
Having skim-read the past couple of pages, I can say there are bits of both arguments that I agree with. I think that all views should be tolerated in a democracy, even if they are completely stupid. At the same time, I don't think it's particularly prudent to say that the BNP view is as valid those of the Parties that have actually been in Government before. I read the BNP manifesto before voting in the 2005 UK General Election and most of its pledges just struck me as ridiculous and unworkable. Arguably the most hilarious was withdrawing troops from Iraq and re-deploying them throughout the Channel Tunnel to curb immigration. Withdrawal from the EU was also a good one.
Whilst I'd never vote for a Party that included such silly pledges in their manifesto, I do think it's quite important that Parties like the BNP exist if only to challenge people to go out and actually find out what Parties stand for. It isn't on to simply write the BNP off as 'racists' without actually seeing what their proposals are and how they plan to implement them. I can't say I see why Holy Crap! Lions! sees the way the BNP are portrayed to be of major significance. The BNP may be written off as racists in education and the media but the Government is invariably written off as incompetant, be it Conservative or Labour. I don't see why what other people say or think about a Political Party should stop you from researching and voting for them.
As for the 'we have neither genuine democracy nor freedom of speech' thing, I don't think it's constructive to use absolute terms. Athens was considered a democracy by some but by no means all. We can't go around with banners saying 'Pakis go home!' either. I don't see why that bothers any one. As far as I'm concerned, I find British democracy completely acceptable and have never felt that I couldn't say anything that I didn't genuinely believe in public.

Did someone not get charged with this for wearing that Cradle of Filth "Jesus is a cunt" t shirt? He should have been charged just for liking Cradle of Filth really but I don't think there is a law for that.

That and for being a tit. You can't go about wearing a T-shirt with the word 'cunt' on it. It's not a infringement of civil liberties; it just encourages people not to be 12 and all angst-ridden. That story reminds me of the time someone was expelled from the Catholic school in Dunfermline for wearing a Californication T-shirt. That was hilarious but not as funny as the time the Head Master at Dollar Academy imposed a 'no two people are to come within a foot of each other' rule when two prefects were rumbled whilst shagging in the bogs.

Of that particular incident, I very much doubt it. However, I'm sure if you type in a string of words roughly along the lines of, 'schoolgirl slut takes throbbing massive cock in cubical, moist', you'll get something.

Quit moaning and be thankful you have more freedom of speech than fucking Zimbabwe.
Oh shutup, Zimbabwe is our legacy, it's our fault. And no, not because of white settlers, but because we put Mugabe in power.
Rhodesia was better to live in regardless of colour than Zimbabwe.

Africa is just a rubbish place in general. When I go to Egypt in August, I'm just going to look disapprovingly and wag my finger at everybody.

Excellent points.

Shit point.
Furthermore, Lions! you are a little off the mark here. As a teacher I could not teach anything that is racist (that shows are own lack of free speech). However, the BNP can be taught in schools and indeed should be. Case in point, when I was in college I stood for the Green Party in a mock election that included the Tories, Labour, BNP, The Monster Raving Loony Party and Workers Revolutionary Party. As a Citizenship 'teacher' I can teach about political parties. I will expect students to criticise them all. I am not educating to preserve the status quo. I'm here to inspire change. Other teachers might not share my attitude but my approach is well within the remit of the national curriculum specifications. The fact that I think the BNP are cunts will not become apparent. However, I did tell one student that the NF are a small group of racists. That is a fact - approximately 900 members in Britain and I don't think anyone who's read their lit would disagree with the latter point.
Has anyone heard of the 9th November 'group'. Literally a one man racist army named after the Kristallnacht date.

This horde of wealth is a sickening display"

Nah, Colonial Guilt is for spoilt people who have nothing better to complain about:
'BOO! HOO! The British Empire created some more problems in regions that experienced neither the Enlightenment nor the Industrial Revolution yet it still makes sense to measure their current standards of living against those of countries that did.'
If people like Holy Crap! Lions! feel so badly about what 'we' did, they should get off their arses and do some charity work or something constructive.
