Number one band for me is R.E.M., been listening to them a lot again recently. Liked them for about 16 or 17 years now. They've inspired me so much, not just in music but in life in general too. If it wasn't for listening to them I doubt I'd ever have taken up playing the drums, or been as heavily into music as I am.
After that in no particular order:
Metallica
Alkaline Trio
Maybe not what people were expecting, or maybe exactly as you were expecting
Who really cares.

Too bloody right, Heaven and Hell is an immense album. And the title track is one of my all time fave Sabbath songs, for me it ranks alongside a lot of the stuff from the first six albums of greatness. I can't wait to see them live this year, bloody hell, imagine it!

My favourates have changed a little, it used the be metallica, but i just gone right off them. Probally because i hated St anger so much. they just seem to be in my cd player less and less these days. I have always been a big fan of Therion anyway but i would say that they are now my favourate band of all time. followed by Danzig, Kamelot, Overkill and Marshall Law

Yes, a fellow Kamelot fan! A rare species in this country. Wasn't The Black Halo amazing? A masterpiece of progressive power metal.

I generally hate black metal but some Bathory I heard was quite good and I have time for Darkthrone and Annal Natharkh (sp). Sorry, a bit off the point...
Anyway, fave bands are
DKs
Death
Napalm Death
Entombed
Rage Against the Machine
Probably somebody I have missed off big time but that what comes to mind at the mo. I will just add, though none of those bands are thrash, I still consider it my most listened to music and probably my favourite genre.
Oh, and Hostile's point about Rage is pretty much the same for me. Has anyone here checked out Zack's earlier HC band, Inside Out? If you like USHC it is worth checking out, explains the In My Eyes cover on Renegades quite nicely...

Also, currently I can't stop listening to King Crimson. Amazing band.

Then, in no particular order:

Black Sabbath
AC/DC
Manowar
And the non-metal/rock bands:

Roxy Music
"Wierd Al" Yankovic
I know, that's probably turned out as a "every band I listen to" list but fuck it

Motorhead, pure and simple.
Gee.... I don't know about the rest of you guys, but lately the only things that truly motivate me are erections and bowel movements.
