oh man, Hardcore is something that i've only recently (the last 6 months...ish) got in to. i love cro-mags and saw them (well ex members) the other month down at the underworld. that will certianly go up their in my top gigs list, the energy was unberlievable!

one reason i like hardcore is bacause of the energy, its a very similar thing with thrash. i can really connect with the aggression and excitement, when i listen to "world peace" by cro-mags i get the same feeling as when i'm listening to "bonded by blood" ... i just want to run around and bang my head.

anyway yes indeed The Misfits were my first favourite band (i've loved them since i was 13). always a great bit of drunken singing.

if anybodys interested i am in a hardcore band. http://www.myspace.com/sicktodeathuk

Fucking amazing band.

i'D SAY wehrmacht are thrash to be honest, the side project band they had (spazztic blurr) were more crossover!!

As for punk, i prefer the later heavier stuff DISCHARGE, GBH, EXPLOITED, ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE ETC. I find stuff like THE CLASH & THE BUZZCOCKS pretty boring i'm afraid!! ONSLAUGHT were a really good punk band before they became thrash, check out the "foxhole" and "what lies ahead" demos!!!

The Dead Kennedys are the ultimate Punk Rock band. They are even more Punk Rock than Kiss.

I've been looking into some punk and crossover recently. Got Punk's Not Dead by Exploited and Hear Nothing... by Discharge, two pretty decent albums. I really need to get some stuff by Bad Religion. I saw them live at Leeds Fest a couple of years ago and was blown away by them!

DKs are indeed the ultimate punk band. I fucking love punk, me.
DKs (probably my favourite band and Jello's stuff with the Melvins is great too AND his new spoken word thing)
Poison Idea (Feel the Darkness is one of the best punk albums ever and one of the best albums of the 90s easy)
MDC
Minor Threat
Circle Jerks
BLACK FUCKIN FLAG (My War is even better than Damaged. Just an incredible band)
DRI
Rudimentary Peni
CRASS
Conflict (although it was fucking disheartening when I saw em live @ the Carling Academy recently)
Anti-Sect
Discharge
SubHumAns (my fave UK band)
Raw Power (awesome, awesome band)
etc, etc, etc.

In terms of newer stuff there isn't a lot. However, Assert are great. Really like what these guys do. And Paint it Black are badass as well. Really good old-school sound, on CVA at least.

Does anyone like any punk bands that aren't hardcore or crossover? Can you not bring yourselves to go any less extreme than that?! Listen to the Ramones, you wangs.

DKs are hardly hardcore. And SubHumAns are pretty much straight-up punk musically. I find the Ramones pretty damn dull. A couple of nice riffs but that is about it.

Oh shit! Didn't mention Bad Brains. Quality bands.

punk martin? yes i do listen to lots of punk that isn't hardcore. for example the Misfits (old and new... old is better), sex pistols (i dont care what anybody says, they were absolutely amazing), the damned, tiger army, leftover crack, stockyard stoics, blatz, filth, DKs, the clash etc etc etc etc. thats just a selection from the top of my head.

i love hardcore though, its great. i also really love melodic hardcore, stuff that started with gorilla biscuits and dag nasty and is now bands like The Freaks Union, The Mercy League and A Wilhelm Scream. great music, taking the energy and power from hardcore and adding loads of fantastic tunefulness and harmonies etc. a sound pioneered best by AFI on their "Black Sails..." album. That is one of the best things ever writen, shame they have now become a bunch of cunts.

erm... Raw Power are the best thing in the world. i can't get enough of them at the moment! thanks caps for that one!
