Wrong again, butt-munch?

It was average at best.

The only funny parts of the episode were basically based on Mark's interest in military history. In previous seasons they wouldn't have been the jokes in themselves so much as passing side-comments that would get a laugh out of people like us (e.g. the Anthony Beevor jokes). Whilst this isn't the fifth series' biggest flaw - that Jeremy is no longer funny needs addressing first - I do think they're making a bit too much of Mark's 'square-ness'.

The only thing that made me nearly piss myself that Jeremy said was 'Fuck off!' in response to being asked how old he was. Even the gun thing wasn't particularly funny.

I did really enjoy that episode a lot, I don't feel that it has to have a laugh-out-loud moment every minute for it to be good. It still entertained me and drew me in, and it was good. However, I do agree that Jeremy isn't as good as he used to be. He still does humorous things, but he isn't that funny anymore, it's like they've run out of ideas for him and are just following Mark's adventures throughout this series. Still, it's not something that's bothered me too much, in fact I've really really loved the entire series so far.

It's been a really good series I have to agree! Makes up for the disappointment of South Park..

I agree with James, it is getting a bit boring tho, with everything crumbling at the end, and the camera panning on Mark and Jez.

Yeah, agreed, agreed - good episode, but I can feel staleness creeping in. I hope they at least drag a story out an episode or two.

I think Iain's got it right. I mean, Peep Show has been consistently hilarious and this series has just been funny. It has dropped down a notch and it does seem like they're exaggerating the formula (Jez useless and dependent, Mark useless and dependable). Some good ideas and good few very funny moments but I was expecting more.

The rape bit was good though. 'Nobody said it was bum rape.'

Incidentally, I just realised that the pub in the new episode is the pub where I work at, The Adam & Eve. I can't believe I didn't actually realise when I was watching it.

How could you not know that a scene from a program that you like was filmed at the place where you work?

I knew it had been filmed there, I just didn't spot it when I was watching this episode. I wasn't actually working there at the time they filmed it anyway, I was at the shittier pub down the road (which they also considered using but obviously realised it was shit).

Calling the gun "Gunny" throughout was superb.

Martin: Mark, I want you to...
Mark: Fuck me

Beautiful writing from start to finish.

The confusion as to the butch lassie's sexual orientation was also quite amusing.

RIGHT.

WHAT ARE THEY PLAYING AT?!

That episode had a few good laughs, but it has really sealed the fate of this season for me, unless the final episode pulls something amazing out of the bag. The writers have systematically demolished Mark and Jeremy's mutually pathetic dependence and companionship, Jeremy has been an arsehole in every episode, ruined every chance Mark gets, and got away with it. Mark is getting one dimensional with the whole "The One" thing, and he is letting Jeremy walk all over him even more than usual.

It was another episode where a possible "One" turns up, Jeremy spoils it, and there are a few laughs along the way. I've really started to miss the glory days of the early seasons now, when each episode was 100% memorable and there was some semblance of friendship between Mark and Jeremy, not grudging or back-stabbing co-existance.
